Orogenic movements, mining metrology
He was born in Krakow. He graduated from the Faculty of Mining of the Mining Academy (1931). He began his research and didactic activities in 1931 at the Institute of Applied Geology of the Mining Academy.
He was stand-in professor (1946), senior lecturer (1948), associate professor (1950), and full professor (1958) of the Department of Higher Geodesy and Geodetic Measurements. Acting dean of the Faculty of Mining Surveying and dean of the said faculty in the years 1952-53. He transferred to the Silesian University of Technology in 1964.
In 1971, he returned to the University of Mining and Metallurgy, where he chaired the Institute of Mining Areas and Orogen Protection. In 1974, he retired. Professor Kochmański was a member of the Committee on Geodesy of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Mining and Metallurgy (1981).
