University

The AGH UST is a modern university that actively participates in the building of a knowledge-based society and the creation of innovative technologies.

The university has a well-established position in the country and is recognised abroad. Experienced staff, advanced laboratories, a unique campus, and, above all, the bonds that connect the AGH UST community are our greatest assets.

Research

We extensively carry out research in the fields of technical, natural, Earth, and social sciences, bearing in mind current priorities of the economy and business, in areas including digitisation, energy transformation and zero emissions, climate change, circular economy, or Industry 4.0. Among the many prospective research fields at the AGH UST, research related to space engineering is being developed intensively.

Education

The education offer includes 66 fields of study conducted in 16 faculties. The university also offers education in a doctoral school and nearly 90 postgraduate courses.

Innovations

The innovative potential of the AGH UST is based on its intellectual property, which is expressed in the number of obtained patents, trademarks, and utility models, as well as the know-how and sheer experience of our scientists and students. Each year, the university obtains nearly 100 patents and grants several dozens of licenses. Moreover, the AGH UST ranks at the top among Polish institutions in terms of the number of patent applications filed to the European Patent Office, as well as to the World Intellectual Property, or those submitted in other countries.

In the scientific elite

The great success of the AGH UST is the fact that it has acquired the status of a research university. In the ministerial programme "Excellence Initiative – Research University", the winners of the first competition were the 10 best Polish universities. The university was also awarded the title of the European Space University as a participant in the UNIVERSEH consortium – European Space University for Earth and Humanity, to which four other European universities belong. According to the evaluation of scientific activity carried out by the Ministry of Education and Science for the years 2021–2022, our university received one A+ category, eight A categories, and eight B+ categories. Therefore, the AGH UST retains the right to confer academic degrees in all disciplines.

Modern laboratories and construction projects

More than 800 laboratories equipped with modern apparatus constitute the base for the research conducted at the AGH UST. Due to the numerous investments made over the past decade, the development of diverse research areas was possible. It is, among other things, the construction of facilities such as: the Information Technology Centre, the Ceramics Centre, the Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology, the unique on a European scale Centre of Energy, the Department of Telecommunications, the Faculty of Drilling, Oil, and Gas, and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science, and Biomedical Engineering, as well as the construction of a new seat for the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science, a modern sports hall, and the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Applied Mathematics, and the Department of Foreign Languages.

 

Prestigious grants

AGH UST scientists are beneficiaries of grants in many competitions, including the most prestigious ones, that is, the grants awarded by the European Research Council (ERC), which are addressed to scientists who carry out pioneering and ground-breaking research. In 2020, two researchers from the AGH UST received ERC grants.

University open to cooperation

Cooperation with the economic sector, universities, and research institutes, as well as participation in national and international scientific and industrial consortia, allows for the execution of a number of projects that are eventually implemented onto the market. Every year, the AGH UST signs about 100 agreements, letters of intent, and cooperation agreements with industry, administration, and business environment institutions. An important aspect of our activity is also international cooperation. We signed nearly 300 general cooperation agreements with 60 universities around the world.

Tradition

The university was established in 1913 and opened in 1919.

University campus in the centre of Krakow

All teaching facilities, seats of faculties, administration, and student organisations, as well as the largest in Poland AGH UST Student Campus constitute a compact 40-hectare hub located in the centre of Krakow. It is only a 15-minute walk between the AGH UST Main Building and the Krakow Main Square.

 

Alumni

The graduates of our university dynamically develop their professional careers and operate perfectly in the economic, industrial, and research and development sectors. Our university is the leader in the university ranking that takes into account the financial status of our alumni. The ranking claims that the AGH UST has educated 11 multimillionaires.
