Professor Roman Ney (1931–2020)

He was born in Pińsk. In 1955, he graduated from the University of Mining and Metallurgy in Krakow; he received a doctor’s degree in 1962, postdoctoral qualifications in 1967, was appointed associate professor in 1972, and became full professor in 1976.

Initially, he worked as a stand-in assistant, assistant, assistant professor (1952–1968), senior lecturer (1968–1971), professor, and finally director of the Institute of Power Raw Materials.

Since 1976, he had been a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (head of the Mineral Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences) and since 1989 a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. In the years 1974–1978, he served as undersecretary of state in the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Technology, and he was editor-in-chief of geological journals; a member of the Polish Geological Society.
