It is my pleasure to introduce to you a relatively new experimental technique called Atom Probe Tomography (APT), in particular, its version known as Local Electrode Atomic Probe (LEAP). The lecture will start with a short introduction, including the history and practical applications of atomic probes so far. Following a brief overview of the physics and capabilities of atomic probe tomography, I will introduce the Atom Probe CAMECA system. I will discuss the most important technical details of the instrument. A significant part of my presentation will be devoted to the preparation of samples, which are crucial for all APT systems. The advantages of APT technology will be highlighted by several examples drawn from the fields of physics, chemistry, geoscience and materials engineering. Finally, I will compare the APT with electron tomography. I hope that I will manage to convince you that such an instrument will be very useful for many researchers at our university. I also would like to inform you that for „marketing“ reasons the lecture will be delivered in Polish basing on the slides prepared in English.
