System of wireless emergency communication RESYS most innovative product for mining industry

The functional system of wireless emergency communication RESYS, which can be used in workings in danger of methane and/or coal dust explosion, has been awarded a prize as the most innovative product for the mining industry in the competition “Mining Success of the Year”. The RESYS project, carried out under the supervision of professor Tadeusz Uhl of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics (Department of Robotics and Mechatronics), was accomplished within the framework of the consortium of scientific research entities and units, whose leader was the AGH University of Science and Technology.

RESYS is the most technologically advanced project dealing with solutions for the needs of wireless communication in mining. Rescuers will be able to use an autonomous, mobile system, which will make the rescue operation and coordination easier, and in the first place, it will substantially increase the level of safety of rescue workers.

Eventually, the system is going to be batch produced, and its design and development were preceded by complex research work. It needs to be emphasized that the solutions developed within the framework of RESYS are innovative at the international level. Currently, the market offers no systems of wireless emergency communication that would be light, easy to set up, and at the same time, that would be certified to be used in methane mines. RESYS improves the pace and efficiency of an emergency operation, solves communication problems between rescuers within the rescue team, and between the team and the base (the head of a rescue operation). The new rescue communication kit makes it possible to send information about the rescuer’s heart rate both to the rescue base and to the surface (using a heart rate monitor located on the chest). In the future, the system will serve as the basis for building an integrated system of mining transmission and communication, whose structure will be similar to the currently-used ground systems of wireless communication.

The organiser of the competition “Mining Success of the Year” is the Polish Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the School of Underground Mining. The competition jury awards prizes in three categories: innovation, personality, and natural environment. The ceremony of presenting statuettes and certificates took place on 12th January, 2017, in the Silesian Philharmonic Hall in Katowice during the New Year’s Mining Concert.
