Three AGH UST faculties with the highest A+ rating

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has announced the results of its  recent comprehensive evaluation of the quality of scientific and R&D activity of research institutions. The highest ( A+ ) rating, awarded to units demonstrating an outstanding excellence of scientific or development work, was received by as many as three AGH UST faculties.

The top A+ rating was awarded to the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science, Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics and Telecommunications and Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics.

The evaluation of scientific and research activity was coordinated by the Committee for Evaluation of Scientific Research Institutions (KEJN), whose detailed analysis covered almost 1000 research units operating in 8 areas. The evaluation conducted by the Committee’s experts was based on four major criteria: scientific and creative achievements, scientific potential, practical impact of research and artistic activity and other effects of research and artistic activity. The higher the category awarded to a particular research unit, the higher research subsidy the unit will receive. At the university level, the ratings awarded to its individual units have a substantial impact on the level of state subsidies granted to the entire institution.

Category A: Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Energy and Fuels, Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics, Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science, Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas, Faculty of Non-Ferrous Metals and Faculty of Management.

Category B: Faculty of Mining Surveying and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering, Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Foundry Engineering

Compared to the parametric evaluation conducted in 2013, the number of AGH-UST research units with the A+ rating increased (from 1 to 3) while the number of research units rated B dropped (from 7 to 4) as they got promoted to the higher (A) category (from 8 to 10).

According to Vice-Rector for Science, prof. Andrzej R. Pach:
– Compared to the 2013 evaluation, AGH UST has substantially improved the quality of its research output. This is particularly visible when comparing the results for particular criteria with those from the year 2013. The upward trend in the quality of research conducted by AGH UST is also reflected in international rankings.
