A robot for oak seed enhancement, whose co-inventors are scientists from AGH UST, has won gold medal at 11th. International Warsaw Invention Show IWIS 2017.
The project received the award in recognition of its innovative approach to the problem of seed enhancement in pot plant nurseries specialised in the production of oak cuttings. The invention will contribute to an increase in the number of oak cuttings and thus the number of oak trees growing in our forests.
The robot is currently being developed by scientists from AGH UST, Kraków University of Agriculture and Poznań-based Industrial Institute of Agricultural Engineering, in cooperation with two external companies: PROMAR and OPTISTER.
The AGH UST team, headed by Professor Ryszard Tadeusiewicz of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering, includes: prof. Andrzej Turnau, DSc Adam Piłat, DSc Mirosław Jabłoński, DSc Zbigniew Mikrut and DSc Jaromir Przybyło.
IWIS International Warsaw Invention Show is the largest Polish and the third largest European international exhibition aimed at promoting scientific development, inventions and innovations.
This year’s opening ceremony was accompanied by a keynote debate: Are we ready for revolutions and changes? The debate was hosted by the leader of the Dialog Programme – prof. Zbigniew Kąkol, AGH UST’s Vice-Rector for Science in the 2012–2016 period. One of the speakers was AGH UST’s Vice-Rector for Cooperation, prof. Jerzy Lis.
The 2017 IWIS featured presentations of solutions from 32 countries, including Malaysia, Romania, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Iran, Taiwan, Egypt, Moldova, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Polish inventors presented 138 designs from various areas of science, which – together with overseas ideas – gave the total of over 400 solutions. With some of the developments being already practically deployed for industrial applications, the vast majority of the designs show much promise in terms of market potential and as they are in full readiness for implementation they are awaiting practical applicability. The event attracted over 20000 visitors.
IWIS 2017 organised by the Association of Polish Inventors and Rationalisers in cooperation with the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland and Warsaw University of Technology was held in the Main Hall of the University.
