The third edition of this Krakow event was organised on 5th May, 2012, at the landing stage belonging to the Academic Sports Association of the University School of Physical Education at Bulwar Rodła (Rodła Embankment). The weather was favourable, and the turnout of both competitors and spectators was high. The honorary patron figure of this student race is... the Wawel Castle Dragon. This is the reason why winners get a statuette with "his" image. The winning team passes it on to the Rector of their university, and until the following year's race, it adorns a seat of honour at the winning university. It is worthwhile emphasizing that the trophy had been made by the students of the AGH UST Faculty of Foundry Engineering under the supervision of Ewa Olejnik, DSc, of the Department of Cast Alloys and Composites Engineering.
The "Intercollegiate Race of Dragon Boats" is a regular event in the academic calendar of Krakow. The competition is intended for academic teams of Krakow universities. Alongside the sporting dimension of the race, it is also a good opportunity for a lot of fun and entertainment enjoyed by both the race participants and, usually high in number, spectators.
Many congratulations to the winners - we wish they keep fit until the next race!
