AGH UST comes first again among Polish technical universities in ranking Webometrics

In the latest edition of Webometrics, AGH UST again came first among Polish technical universities. In the classification of Polish schools of higher education, AGH UST reached the 3rd place.

The ranking took into account 12 thousand universities from all over the world, including 422 from Poland. It is worth noting that only three Polish universities were rated among the top 500 schools from all over the world which are most visible on the Internet.

General classification:

  • 337 – University of Warsaw
  • 397 – Jagiellonian University
  • 473 – AGH University of Science and Technology
  • 522 – University of Wrocław
  • 529 – Warsaw University of Technology

Traditionally, among the top one hundred schools of higher education in the ranking there are mostly American universities. The best three are: Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University. The best British university – University of Oxford – was ranked number 10.

The Ranking Web of Universities (Webometric Ranking of World Universities) is prepared twice a year (in January and July) by the Spanish National Research Council in Madrid (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas – CSIC). It is a classification which evaluates the presence of academic and research institutions on the Internet on the basis of a complex index. The first edition of the ranking was published in 2004. The aim of Webometrics is to increase the presence of academic institutions on the Internet, and to promote free access to the results of scientific research. The ranking takes into account both the quantity of information published on the Internet (the number of web pages and files uploaded on to the Internet), as well as the visibility and influence of the contents measured by the number of external links.
