Three technical universities celebrate 200th anniversary

The 200th anniversary of technical education was a joint jubilee of the AGH University of Science and Technology, the Warsaw University of Technology, and the Kielce University of Technology. The jubilee festivities of the three universities took place on 25th February, 2016, in Kielce.  

 

The celebrations began with a holy mass at the Kielce Cathedral Basilica, celebrated by Bp. Jan Piotrowski. After the mass, the participants went to the Palace of the Krakow Bishops in Kielce, where a plaque dedicated to the traditions of the Academic-Mining School was unveiled and blessed.  

 

A ceremonial session of the Senates of the AGH University of Science and Technology, the Warsaw University of Technology, and the Kielce University of Technology, which took place in the Portrait Hall of the Palace, gathered a significant number of guests. Among them there were also the representatives of the Freiberg University of Technology.  

 

The introductory lecture “The genesis and the establishment history of the Academic-Mining School in Kielce” was delivered by Dr Cezary Jastrzębski of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. Later, talks were given by the rectors – professor Jan Szmidt, professor Tadeusz Słomka, and professor Stanisław Adamczak, who represented their respective universities.  

 

The event also featured the premiere of an occasion-related film and a presentation of the monograph “200 years of traditions of higher technical education in Poland.”  

 

The ceremony concluded with laying flowers at the statues of Stanisław Staszic and Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski, which took place in the main building of the Kielce University of Technology.
