The AGH UST Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology invites you to participate in the ACMiN Seminar, which will take place on April 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm. The seminar will be conducted in a hybrid format, with the possibility to join on-line.
The lecture titled "Materials for application in Fusion Reactors: Determining the elastic properties of single grains in the ultrafine-grained W-Cr composite" will be presented by dr Andrzej Kądzielawa (IT4Innovations, VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic; Institute of Physics Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland).

While the elastic properties of a composite microstructure are relatively straightforward in obtaining (e.g., using the resonance ultrasound spectroscopy), the features of a single grain are not directly measured. Here, we show our approach to determining these properties by employing large-scale ab-initio modeling techniques. Furthermore, we quantitatively reproduce the observed values of the whole microstructure, basing our model-grain compositions on the X-ray diffraction patterns, thus substantiating the utility of this procedure in the design of novel alloys.
