Seminar: Berry phase effects in the layered topological metals

Abstract

We study the effects related to the Berry phases along Fermi cross-sections in two types of systems: (i) multilayers of topological crystalline insulator SnTe [1] and (ii) 2D heterostructures of transition metal oxides [2,3]. In case (i) we show that the mirror symmetry breaking can explain the features related to the weak antilocalization whereas in case (ii) we show that the observed sign change of the Hall conductance can be related to the topology of the occupied bands.
