Hack4Med – Medical Hackathon Against COVID-19


Hack4Med is a unique event that will combine the creativity of IT specialists with medicine, which may result in the creation of an innovative tool to fight against COVID-19. The hackathon is organised by the University Hospital in Krakow and Codete. The event will take place October 16-17, 2021, at the new headquarters of the University Hospital at 2 Jakubowskiego street.

A hackathon organised for the first time in Poland and one of the first such competitions in Europe, Hack4Med will allow its participants to perform conceptual work on real and anonymised medical data of patients. The objective of the first edition will be to create an innovative tool that will facilitate the automation of COVID-19 risk prediction. This will be the so-called “COVID risk calculator”, which will constitute tangible support for the medical personnel.

Competitors will face three tasks and the chance to win the total prize of PLN 100,000. Participation is free and the application process is open to all specialists from the IT sector. 25 best teams (maximum 5 people per team) will qualify to the grand finale – in total: more than 120 high-class specialists in data processing and IT, as well as computer analysts and programmers.

The jury and mentors of the competition comprise specialists in such fields as programming, data science, and artificial intelligence, as well as the representatives of the University Hospital in Krakow specialising in various branches of medicine, who work day and night with patients with COVID-19.

The event will be held under the honorary auspices of: Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Marshal of the Małopolska Province Witold Kozłowski, Rector of the Jagiellonian University Professor Jacek Popiel, Rector of AGH University of Science and Technology Professor Jerzy Lis, and Rector of Cracow University of Economics Assoc. Professor Stanisław Mazur.
