Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology AGH UST invites for a seminar that will be held on 8th of October, 2020, at 2.00 pm.
A lecture titled “Ferrite Micro- and Nano-particles for Magnetic Resonance Imaging Thermometry” will be given by Professor Marek Przybylski, Director of Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an important tool to obtain anatomical information on different types of tissues in a body. Temperature is a fundamental parameter reflecting the biological status of the body and individual tissues, thus it would be helpful to have temperature maps superimposed on anatomical images. I will show that small ferromagnetic ferrite particles with a strong temperature dependence of magnetization can be used to produce temperature-dependent images. I will show how one can engineer the particles in order to improve sensitivity of the method. I will comment on the physical techniques helpful to control the results of such engineering. Last but not least I will show that the contrast mechanism for micro and nano-particles is not necessarily the same.
