On December 8, 2021, at 12:00, at the AGH UST, a ceremony of conferral of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa upon Professor Janusz Mroczka will take place. He is a prominent metrologist, the creator of the Polish school of electrical and photonic metrology, and a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Professor Janusz Mroczka, a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, was born on April 27, 1952 in Dębica. He completed his Master’s programme in 1976 at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, with which he has been professionally bound to date. In 1980, he defended his doctoral dissertation and in 1991, he received postdoctoral qualifications. In 1996, he was awarded the title of Professor. In 2021, his Alma Mater has given him the status of professor magnus.
Professor Mroczka’s research interests revolve around the methodology of the cognitive process, algorithmisation of inverse problems, numerically ill-conditioned indirect measurements, spectrum and polarisation analyses of scattered radiation in dispersive systems, data fusion, metrical data processing, and development of the method of moments in dispersive system analysis.
Professor Mroczka authored 446 publications (144 on the Philadelphia list), co-authored 13 books (5 foreign, 8 Polish), and 8 patents (4 implementations). He has fulfilled (as head or chief executor) 31 grants (7 international). Over the years of his professional scientific career, Professor Mroczka has been actively participating in multiple projects realised by various organisations and commissions.
He was a supervisor of 26 doctoral dissertations (4 cotutelle in France, all defended with distinctions, and the last one received the M. Skłodowska-Curie award for best doctoral dissertation in a given discipline in Europe). He also supervised 9 postdoctoral candidates, reviewed 3 applications for the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, and 58 professorship applications (1 abroad); moreover, he promoted more than 200 candidates. Professor Mroczka is a world-renowned scientist, and the irrefutable proof thereof are his international contacts with scientific facilities of the world: in Rouen, Yokohama, Toronto, Preston, Marseille, Eindhoven, Berlin, Boston, San Diego, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, London, Padua, Brussels, Tampere, and Shanghai.
For his research-scientific activity, Professor Mroczka received numerous awards and commendations; in addition, in 2020, he was listed among the most influential people of science in the Top 2% Scientists of the World ranking. Professor Mroczka has received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from Lublin University of Technology (2014), Opole University of Technology (2017), Gdańsk University of Technology (2019), and the Military University of Technology (2019).
