Professor Jerzy Lis, AGH UST Rector, professor Marek Cała, Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering, and AGH UST professor Marek Borowski, President of the Miner’s Day Committee, are pleased to invite all students, graduates, employees and friends of AGH UST to take part in distance festivities on the occasion of Miner’s Day, celebrated on 4th December. For the first time in the AGH UST history, Barbórka will be celebrated virtually.
Celebrations related to the day of miners’ patron saint have for decades been organised according to a set rhythm. This year, however, the epidemiological situation has made the convention change its form from traditional to virtual.
Barbórka 2020 will commence with the 61st Conference of Student Special Interest Groups of the Mining Section, which is planned for 3rd December. Within the framework of 20 thematic blocks, students will present the results of their work in special interest groups of the mining section.
The main celebrations related to the day of miners’ patron saint will take place on 4th December. They will begin with a holy mass at St Anna’s Collegiate Church at 9 a.m. (participation is possible with observing current restrictions related to the epidemic situation). The main event of St Barbara’s Day celebrations at AGH UST will be a ceremonial session of the AGH UST Senate, which will start at 1 p.m. It will be participated in only by the representatives of the university authorities and the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering. The Senate session will be available online at www.agh.edu.pl, barborka.agh.edu.pl, and www.wgig.agh.edu.pl.
The festivities will conclude with a virtual, interactive Mining Feast.
This year, there will be no accompanying events that usually attract a lot of viewers, such as the International Exhibition and Fair of Minerals, Fossils and Jewellery, “Parade of Foxes” (march of a Mining Procession through the streets of the city), or “Jump over the leather apron” (awarding the symbolic title of Miner to first-year students of the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering).
