After successful, one-and-a-half year using of the accelerator, it entered into the second phase of its operation in which its energy will increase to 4TeV for each proton beam, and its infrastructure will be prepared to work at energy 7TeV. In the initial phase of the LHC installation, the scope of AGH UST researchers and scientists was connected with cryogenic flow and the systems of protecting superconducting magnets against resistive transitions.
Currently, 14 AGH UST researchers and scientists work at the Large Hadron Collider. At the peak time the number will increase to 34 people. Since 2005, 41 AGH UST staff have been involved in the building of LHC.
During the visit, the delegates saw the underground experiment halls for ATLAS and LHC, the main control centre for all accelerators and cryogenic installations, as well as the centre for controlling research into cosmic radiation for the experiment AMS, located on the International Space Station.
